In the Spirit of Partnership: Operationalisation of Sustaining Peace at the Regional Level

In this paper, we shed light on the benefits of operationalising strategic partnerships at the regional level from the perspective of the GPPAC network. It analyses and assesses the roles that the United Nations can play in the process; shares good practices introduced at the regional level by various actors; and outlines lessons learned that explain additional opportunities for action. The paper closes with specific recommendations for the 2020 Secretary-General’s Report on Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace and the Review of the United Nations Peacebuilding Architecture on how the United Nations can enhance existing work to bolster regional peacebuilding, with a specific focus on strengthening strategic and operational partnerships at the regional level.
