Making Global Policy Effective in Supporting Women's Impactful Participation in Peace Processes: Learnings from Kyrgyzstan, Uganda, and Palestine

Join this side event hosted on the margins of the 2024 Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Open Debate at the United Nations Security Council which amplifies the voices and experiences of local women peacebuilders, offering invaluable insights to shape global policy in a way that is both realistic and directly responsive to the communities it seeks to serve.

With the upcoming 2025 Peacebuilding Architecture Review (2025 PBAR), the 25th Anniversary of the WPS Agenda, and the follow-up to the Pact for the Future on the horizon, now is a critical moment to ensure that global frameworks reflect the needs and realities of grassroots peacebuilders.

Panel Discussion: Voices from Central Asia, Uganda, and Palestine

The engaging panel discussion will feature expert voices from Central Asia, Uganda, and Palestine, as we highlight the vital contributions of local women peacebuilders to peace processes in these regions.

The discussion will centre around the following questions:

  1. How do women peacebuilders’ work impact peace processes? What are the entry points and strategies for maximising the impact (based on women’s needs)? What strategies are the most effective to improve the impact of women's action?
  2. How are women peacebuilders currently supported in realising their full potential in peace processes? What action has taken place?
  3. What concrete actions should diverse peacebuilding stakeholders undertake to support women's integral role in peace processes? What type of support do local women peacebuilders need? How can the 2025 PBAR, the 2025 Anniversary of the WPS Agenda and the follow-up from the Pact for the Future help?
