Lessons Learned and Strategic Operationalisation of Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace in Eastern and Central Africa

To effectively support peacebuilding and sustaining peace in Eastern and Central Africa, the UN peacebuilding architecture can take the following steps:

  1.  intentionally localise peacebuilding efforts
  2.  integrate peacebuilding and sustaining peace across the work of the entire UN system
  3.  enhance multi-stakeholder coordination on peacebuilding in the region
  4.  promote political and institutional commitment to peacebuilding and sustaining peace among all peacebuilding stakeholders

These steps were identified during a regional consultation held on 11 November 2024, involving local peacebuilders, UN and government representatives, and the donor community. This summary note aims to inform the formal phase of the 2025 Peacebuilding and Assessment Review (PBAR) and guide the actions of all peacebuilding stakeholders in Eastern and Central Africa.
