Webinar: Peace Education in Armenia

25 October 2019, Starting at 10.00 CET (register here)

This webinar will focus on peace education in Armenia and share practical examples of how peace education was integrated in the schools curriculum. Our member, The Women for Development, NGO began their work in peace education in 2002 in response to the high rates of poverty, unemployment, socio-economic challenges, high rates of migration and the on-going Nagorno-Karabagh conflict. These issues were having a direct impact on the entire Armenian population, including schools.  They implemented the project “Peace and Peaceful Conflict Resolution Education in Schools of Armenia”. The main goal of the project was to include peace education in the school curriculum.

As a result of the peace education project, students have become more tolerant toward each other.  The number of conflict cases with violent outcomes has decreased, the quality of education has been enhanced and they learned to respect other cultures, their history and values.

The process of institutionalization of the peace education in Armenia started in August 2015 when the National Institute of Education of the RA Ministry of Education officially included peace and conflict management education in the range of the topics that are taught during the class head’s classes.
