Virtual Peace Tables: Together for Peace

Across the globe, communities from the streets of Louisville to New Delhi, have been affected by unprecedented levels of crisis. In recent months, the effects of climate change, racial injustice, gender inequality and the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic have had an enormous impact on the livelihoods of people around the world. This all has united us in our struggle like never before. Together we are at a crossroads, faced with the question: “What is the world that we want to see?”.

What is the world that we want to see?

In response, peacebuilders everywhere have been quick to act with creativity and commitment to help those most in need. These challenges have brought together the peacebuilding community, united with a common mission of building just and inclusive societies everywhere. Inspired by this momentum, we want to make 2020 a year of collective action for peace. As we commemorate GPPAC’s 15 year anniversary of global collective action, we are launching the campaign #Together4Peace on the International Day of Peace.

That is why we are bringing peacebuilders together in a series of Virtual Peace Tables, in which they will share and discuss their visions on how we can build the world that we want to see. This year’s Peace Day theme “Shaping Peace Together”  is an important reminder that only together we can (re)shape the future.

They dove into local to global challenges, initiatives and methods for change to not only respond to crises, but to exploit them for good. They will help us to see what a reimagined education system that puts social cohesion, imagination and critical thinking at its core can look like.

Virtual Peace Table: Redesigning the Table

In this Virtual Peace Table, peacebuilders discussed the peace-development-humanitarian nexus challenges facing the Pacific region. They shed a light on thriving local initiatives in the region that have the ability to transform the way we look at security and have the power to shape the peaceful world that we want to see.
